Long Marston Airfield, Stratford Upon Avon
10th May 2012: GlobalGathering - the UK’s most diverse and progressive electronic music festival today announces additions to the line-up for the 2012 event, taking the list of acts confirmed to undeniable levels of greatness.
The festival returns to Long Marston Airfield, Stratford Upon Avon on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th July for its 12th year, featuring headline performances from Tinie Tempah, Chase & Status, Armin van Buuren, Skrillex and Friendly Fires.
The first new name to be announced, off the back of his break out single Are You Not Entertained is Dot Rotten. The South London grime artist, who was nominated for the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll makes his GlobalGathering debut in style this year and is set to tear up the Main Stage.
GlobalGathering are also pleased to today announce two new stages to add to the list of heavyweight hosts set to storm Long Marston Airfield. The first, joining the likes of UKF Bass Culture, Hospitality, Rinse and Visionquest are Birmingham-based promoters Ec-lectricity. The Ec-lectricity Presents stage will showcase their knack of breaking down musical barriers, combining this with top-notch event production on the brand new outdoor stage featuring mind blowing LED visuals whilst bringing the very best electronic music out there across the genre spectrum.
Leading the Ec-lectricity Presents charge will be Tech House titan James Zabiela, alongside the indefinable outfit behind one of this year’s biggest dance floor bangers yet, Get Out Of My Head – Redlight. Experimental dub label Hessle Audio will bring Pearson Sound, Ben UFO and Pangaea to proceedings, whilst versatile breakbeat operator Breakage, and DJ and Producer Mosca – whose influences range from dancehall to tech house – will reflect the mashed-up genres on offer from Ec-lectricity. Also playing the arena that’s sure to have every type of dance fan paying it a visit over the weekend are Jackmaster, along with Roses Gabor (Live), Rockwell and George Fitzgerald.
Also announced today, the House stage will offer up anthem after dance anthem from world-renowned purveyors of the finest party songs around. One of the brightest new lights on the house
scene, 22-year old Nicky Romero, makes his GlobalGathering debut this year. The Dutchman has already collaborated with the likes of Fedde le Grand and David Guetta, and said:
“I’m really looking forward to playing this awesome festival... It will be my first time so GlobalGathering fans better get ready to get their socks rocked off… See you soon!”
Joining Romero is Tommy Trash. The larger-than-life personality famed for his riotous live shows is a self-confessed mixing machine, with his work being given the nod by the likes of Armand Van Helden, Moby, Steve Aoki and Swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party. Also on the bill and keeping the energy in the House arena high will be banana and champagne loving Swedes Dada Life – sure to stay true to their motto “Big tunes, no frills.” R3hab and Rob Guson complete the bill.
With plenty more surprises up its sleeves for 2012, GlobalGathering will be continuing its tradition of upping its offering and improving the experience year-on-year – developing the festival layout, bringing audiences the best in new electronic music first, offering up staggering new production concepts and comprehensive lineups.
Alongside the UK event, GlobalGathering will also visit countries across the world in 2012 proving their status as the international leaders in the electronic music market – with festivals taking place in Belarus (30th June), Ukraine (14th July), Russia (21st July), and South Korea (6th October). Wakestock’s back this year and bringing the
elements of wakeboarding and the sea into the usual festival expectations, of;
portaloos tents and relatively smelly inhabitants of those tents, once again.
In case you still haven’t checked out the line-up there’s a lot to look forward
to as always.
Okay so headlining the West stage we’ve got Calvin Harris Dizzee Rascal and Ed Sheeran, on the Friday Saturday and Sunday respectively. Calvin Harris is always a safe bet to watch he puts on a good show and with the (somewhat) recent release of feel so close andbounce we’re almost certain to be treated to some new material. Dizzee has been pretty quiet of late and hasn’t done anything massive since he released Tongue N’ Cheek last year so once again I’d be sorely disappointed if we don’t hear at least a few new tracks (He’ll be worth seeing just to hear something new from him!) Finally on the west stage is Ed Sheeran. I think it’s safe to say that Ed Sheeran is always going to be a big addition to any festival and Wakestock will be no exception. Other acts I would recommend checking out are; Benjamin Francis Leftwich, adding to the ever growing folk music scene (and with a very apt name for such a genre) Benjamin has followed the likes of Mumford and sons et al in the sense that he’s bringing his folk music into current chart and pop music. Critically acclaimed potty mouth (but damn good rapper) Azaelia Banks is also making an appearance and of course everyone will expect to hear the devilishly catchy 212 along with, hopefully, some new material. Rizzle Kicks are also putting in a set and having a debut album out and some impressive pop tracks making it into the charts they’ll be a good addition to the festival.
Then there’s the East stage, Flux pavilion headline the Friday and he’s been pretty busy over the last year or so. He got especially big after the release of bass cannon and as the only act currently announced for the East stage on Friday I predict one of two things; an extra special set from him that will absolutely blow your socks off (to be honest I’d expect that of him anyway) OR the “special guests” are going to be an exciting surprise. Either way with the mixture of Flux pavilion and the mystery special guests The East stage looks more than a little bit exciting. The official headliner on Saturday is Annie Mac but it would be wrong to say she is the main person to see through the day when we consider that there is also a live set from DJ Fresh, and Ms Dynamite-ee-ee. Annie Mac we all know is a fantastic Dj and I’m sure she’ll live up to the expectations of her. Ms Dynamite is the real figure of interest, if you ask me, staging some sort of a comeback with Wakestock I would expect some possible new tracks along with the classics we know her for so if you fancy a massive nostalgia trip then she’s the one to see. On Sunday, Wakestock have, again, employed the element of mystery by so far only announcing that All American Rejects will be performing but once again All American Rejects are reason enough to go and see the set without considering the suspense of finding out who the surprise guests are and why they have been kept a secret.
Finally the South stage we’ve got High contrast, Jakwob, Doctor P and Redlight. Lincoln Barrett, better known as High Contrast, will be sure of a warm welcome here considering it’s somewhat of a homecoming (yeah he’s Welsh). The south stage seems much more devoted to the likes of drum and bass and dubstep than anything else, two genres which are most definitely making their way into mainstream pop music with producers like Jakwob and Doctor P, both of whom will be appearing on the Saturday. Doctor P representing the chart music portion of dubstep whereas Jakwob is more of a representative for the “die hard” dubstep fans (these people really know their dubstep).
Of course this is only a selection of the lineup but it’s safe to say it looks incredible and we haven’t even started on the atmosphere that comes with Wakestock every year. Regardless In this reviewer’s eyes Wakestock is a must see festival and you’d be mad to miss out on it.

Everyone
in the Bestival Bunker is well excited about Parisian
genius Brodinski coming to Bestival. A man
after our own hearts Brodinski’s taste is as wide as our smiles when we’re
reaching for the lasers at one of his gigs, covering filthy techno, bass heavy
house and minimal vibes. You know you have to be there when he raises the roof!
Anyone who knows their onions when it comes to dance music will know

Peterson is an utter legend on a quest to find the
perfect beat and we’re jolly pleased that he’s taking his search to the Isle of
Wight to exhibit his impeccable taste for all you lucky Bestivalites. And

Dubstepper Zomboy, cut and scratch

good Kaf-Tan.
We’re
also delighted to announce that Bestival will be teaming up
with Exit
Festival to take part in the Association of Independent
Festivals (AIF) Twin Festivals initiative. Deriving from the popular ‘twin
towns’ concept the scheme aims to create a cultural exchange between the UKs
leading independent festivals and their international counterparts and both
festivals have plenty of ideas up their sleeves to benefit both artists and
festivalgoers from Serbia and the Isle of Wight this summer.
Says Rob
da Bank: “I’m so
pleased that we're twinning with Exit - my one visit there has stayed lodged in
my festival brain as one of my favourite memories…playing records in an old
fort to the most hedonistic party people this side of …well Bestival! So much
energy, good vibes and great acts playing - hopefully something that we share
with Exit at Bestival. Long may we be brothers and sisters in
sound!”
Says
EXIT General Manager Bojan
Boskovic: “We are so
excited to be twinning with Bestival this year as we have watched it bloom from
a wonderful ethos into one of the largest and most musically exciting festivals
around! Bestival has a great energy, an immense and interesting line up and who
can compete with the unique ideas and artwork each year. Exchanging acts and
ideas, we also hope some of our followers will make the journey to Bestival and
we look forward to welcoming Bestival fans to our crazy
fortress”.
To
benefit local artists each festival has put forward acts to swap and play at
each others events. The
Playground Syndicate will play at EXIT
and The Good
Guys will play at Bestival. Each act will also blog
about their experience playing at the twinned festival.
Hailing
for the Isle of Wight, The
Playground Syndicate are made up of 2 DJ’s (Elmo &
Beavz) and the visual brilliance of the A.V Circus. These boys are seriously
talented individuals and when they come together they are a mega force,
twisting your mind with warped visuals, DJing with huge creative energy and
reinventing the tunes they play within the mix.
DJ
duo The Good
Guys aka Bojan Cizmic and Andrija Kovac play a mixture
of electronic folk, guitars and samplers with no boundaries and are rising
stars in the Serbian underground electronic music scene. With over 30
productions under their belt covering a range of styles from folk trash to nu
rave the pair have broken out of their native Eastern Europe and are now
playing gigs all over the world.
Twinned
festivals will be sharing not only artists and expertise but also audiences, as
10 lucky competition winners will be given the chance to experience the twin
festival in action. And one lucky winner from each festival will also get
the chance to win a trip to the twin festival with travel and accommodation for
them and a mate. Announcements will follow on both festival websites in the
coming months with more information and how to enter.
Now
in its third year the AIF scheme has gone from strength to strength with
participating festivals successfully building local awareness of their twins
through cross press and marketing promotions. As well as sharing links on their
websites, twinned festivals also include twinning information on flyers,
marketing materials and in their PR campaigns to local media and once their own
event has sold out help to market their international twin through their media
channels. Talent discussions have helped to co-ordinate bookings of
international artists and further reinforce the fundamental values that unite
the festivals.
Taking
place from Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th July, in the magical Petrovaradin
Fortress overlooking the river Danube, EXIT continues to deliver the most
adventurous and value for money festival experience, with a diverse and cutting
edge line up, cheap food and drink onsite and the best campsite entertainment
whilst bathing in the hot Balkan sunshine. Tickets are onsale now from
only £95 for a 4 day festival pass. For more info and tickets

Sadly
